What Dual Degree Online MBA Programs Are Available?

Many universities offering online programs recognize that adding a master’s degree to an MBA enables students to bring specialized knowledge to the workplace, achieve greater career advancement, and become much more competitive in the job market.

Dual degree programs allow motivated students to earn two degrees in a shorter time than it would take to earn two degrees separately by applying overlapping coursework to the completion requirements of each degree program. While many dual degree programs are available 100 percent online, students living close to a university can often choose to do some of the program in a hybrid on-campus/online format.

Online MBA & Online Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) Dual Degree Programs

Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona)

Arizona State University offers two fully online dual MBA/engineering degree programs designed to help working engineers advance in both engineering skills and business acumen. The MBA and master of science in engineering (MSE) in electrical engineering and the MBA and master of science in industrial engineering are 56-credit programs.

GMAT scores are required to apply to both programs. For the MBA/MSE program, applicants must have at least one year of professional experience (two years is preferred).

University of Michigan-Dearborn (Dearborn, Michigan)

The 57- to 66-credit MBA and master of science in engineering (MSE) in industrial and systems engineering offered by the University of Michigan-Dearborn is designed to train students with an engineering, physical science, computer science, or applied mathematics background in business leadership.

Students can complete the program entirely online, but students may also choose to learn in a blended online/on-campus format. GMAT scores are required, but waivers may be available.

Online MBA & Master of Science in Finance (MSF) Dual Degree Programs

University of Michigan-Dearborn (Dearborn, Michigan)

The 57- to 66-credit MBA/MS in finance offered by the University of Michigan-Dearborn prepares students for managerial success in corporate finance, investments, and general finance positions.

The program is offered online or can be taken in a hybrid online/on-campus format. GMAT scores are required, but GMAT waivers are available. The program is open for both full- and part-time enrollment.

Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana)

The 66-credit MBA/MS in finance offered entirely online by Indiana University prepares students to become CFOs who operate with business knowledge cultivated through a lens of global and social responsibility. Program participants have a total of five years to complete both degrees. Applicants must have two years of relevant work experience to apply. GMAT scores are required to apply, but waivers may be available.

Northeastern University (Boston, Massachusetts)

The 62-credit MBA/MS in finance offered by Northeastern University prepares graduates for next-generation innovation and entrepreneurship with a finely-honed understanding of finances. This dual-degree option requires students to take only four additional courses to earn a second degree, and takes 2.5 years to complete.

Applicants must have five years of professional experience. GMAT scores are recommended only for those who wish to strengthen their application.

Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland)

Johns Hopkins offers a 66-credit online dual MBA and master of science in applied economics program designed to create leaders who understand the complementary nature of business and economics. While most of the courses in the program are offered online, three business courses require 1.5 to 2.5 days of on-campus participation in residences. GMAT scores are required to apply.

Online MBA and Master of Science in Health Administration (MHA) Dual Degree Programs

University of Scranton (Scranton, Pennsylvania)

The University of Scranton offers an online dual MBA and master of health administration program. This dual degree program is accredited by organizations that provide the highest standards in their disciplines; AACSB accredits the MBA program, and CAHME accredits the MHA program. Students in the dual program can earn two degrees with fewer credits and in a shorter time, approximately two years.

University of Michigan-Dearborn (Dearborn, Michigan)

The University of Michigan-Dearborn offers an 82-credit dual MBA and master of health services administration (MHSA) designed to prepare graduates to lead in the unique environment of a range of healthcare settings. The MBA/MHSA program can be completed entirely online or can be taken in a blended online/on-campus format. GMAT scores are required to apply, but waivers may be available.

Trident University International (Cypress, California)

Trident University International offers a 64-credit online MBA and master of science in health administration (MHSA) dual degree program. It is designed to develop leaders with the skills to handle the complexity of the healthcare ecosystem. Trident University is a 100 percent online university designed for adult learners, specifically those with military experience. No GMAT scores are required to apply.

Online MBA & Masters in Law and Government Dual Degree Programs

Widener University (Chester, Pennsylvania)

Widener University offers a 42-credit dual MBA and master of jurisprudence (MJ) in corporate business and law designed to prepare students to lead in business compliance. The two programs can be completed entirely online in 2.5 years. GMAT scores are conditionally waived for those accepted into the MJ/MBA program, as long as students maintain a good grade point average in the MJ part of the degree.

Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland)

Johns Hopkins offers a dual MBA and master of arts in government degree designed to help graduates bridge the gap between traditional business leadership and leadership in the public sector. While most of the curriculum is offered online, three business courses require a 1.5 to 2.5-day residency on campus in either Baltimore or Washington DC.

The MBA/MA in government program at Johns Hopkins takes three years to complete. Applicants must have two years of full-time work experience and submit GMAT or GRE scores.

Online MBA & Online Master of Science in Management (MS) Dual Degree Programs

University of Michigan-Dearborn (Dearborn, Michigan)

The University of Michigan-Dearborn offers a 57- to 66-credit dual MBA and master of science in supply chain management program that prepares graduates to handle the logistics of managing the pipeline that turns resources into products. The program is available fully online and can also be taken in a hybrid on-campus/online format for those living close to the university. Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana)

The 66-credit MBA and MS in global supply chain management dual degree program is designed for professionals specializing in the complex logistics required to bring products from idea to market.

Indiana also offers a 66-credit MBA/MS in strategic management that prepares graduates with deep problem-solving skills to create business success. People enrolled in either dual degree program have five years to complete both degrees. Applicants must submit GMAT scores to be accepted. GMAT waivers may be available to qualified applicants.

Online MBA & Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Dual Degree Programs

Purdue Global (Layfayette, Indiana)

Purdue Global offers an online dual degree program awarding an MSN and MBA. Students can complete two master’s degrees in 2.5 months and be eligible to take the certification exams through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), including the Nurse Executive (NE-BC) or Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC).

Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland)

The 65-credit online MBA/MSN in health systems management at Johns Hopkins prepares graduates with the skills to provide exceptional patient care and guide organizational policy and priorities.

While most coursework for this dual-degree program is online, three MBA courses require on-campus immersions lasting 1.5 to 2.5 days each. The program can take anywhere from three to six years. Applicants must submit GMAT or GRE scores, but waivers may be available.

California University of Pennsylvania (California, Pennsylvania)

The 54-credit MSN/MBA dual degree offered through the California University of Pennsylvania prepares working nurse professionals for business leadership in medical settings. The program is 100 percent online and can be completed in 2.5 years or less. No GMAT scores are required to apply. Applicants must have an unencumbered RN license.

Liberty University (Lynchburg, Virginia)

The 60-credit MSN/MBA dual degree program offered by Liberty University prepares medical professionals to apply business expertise to the healthcare field in a balanced and critical way.

The program does not require any on-campus intensives that students can complete in 2.5 years. In addition, no GMAT is required, although applicants must have one year of experience as a practicing RN and a current, unencumbered RN license.

University of Mary (Bismarck, North Dakota)

The 60-credit MSN/MBA in healthcare administration at the faith-focused University of Mary provides an accelerated path for emerging leaders to create impactful changes in the healthcare system. The program is offered completely online but may also be taken in a hybrid online/on-campus format.

No GMAT scores are required to apply. Applicants must have a current and unencumbered RN license. This dual degree program reduces the courseload from 120 to 88 credits with entirely online coursework and an in-person MSN clinical experience. The Commission accredits this program on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Online MBA & Master of Science in Public Health (MPH) Dual Degree Programs

Benedictine University (Lisle, Illinois)

The 98-credit dual-degree MBA and master of science in public health program at the Catholic Benedectine University prepares graduates to be public health leaders. Completing the Benedictine MBA/MPH takes 3.5 years and enables students to earn two degrees in nine fewer courses. GMAT scores are not required to apply to Benedictine.

Other Online MBA and Masters of Science Dual Degree Programs

Aurora University – Online MBA and Master of Social Work

Located in Aurora, Illinois, Aurora University Online offers an 84-credit dual degree online MBA and Master of Social Work (MSW) program. This is a textbook-free program whereby instructors use open educational resources (OER) to reduce costs and give students easy access to materials in an online learning environment.

This program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and meets licensure requirements for social workers in all U.S. states and territories. Students can start this program on three dates throughout the year and graduate in four to five years.

Benedictine University – Online MBA and Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior (MSOB)

Benedictine University offers a 96-credit online dual MBA/MSMOB program that trains students to inspire teams and manage challenging projects leading through an ethical framework. The dual degree program reduces the courseload from 39 to 26 credits. The GRE/GMAT is not required for admission, and students can complete two degrees in two years.

Carlow University – Hybrid MBA and Master of Social Work

Carlow University offers a hybrid dual degree program awarding an MBA and a master’s of social work. This program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). Students in this program combine online courses with in-person learning and can earn both degrees in 15 to 24 months and can begin at one of three start dates throughout the year.

Eastern Washington University – Online MBA and Master of Professional Accountancy

Located in Cheney, Washington, Eastern Washington University (EWU) offers a fully online MBA and Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc). The Accreditation Council accredits the School of Business at EWU for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

In addition, it consistently ranks highly on U.S. News & World Report’s list of best regional universities. EWU offers seven start dates throughout the year, courses are offered in six-week formats, and GMAT waivers are available.

Lamar University – Online MBA and Master of Science in Management Information Systems

Lamar University, a Texas State University System member, offers a 48-credit online dual degree program that wards students two graduate degrees in business and management information systems. Students in this program learn enterprise resources planning and use software platforms such as Oracle, MS Access, and Salesforce.

This program is entirely online, and students can complete it in as few as 18 months. In addition, graduates from this program are eligible to earn certifications such as SAP TS410 and communicate business concepts through presentations and writing for domestic or international audiences.

Johns Hopkins University – Online MBA and Master of Science in Biotechnology

The 60-credit online MBA/MS in biotechnology offered through Johns Hopkins prepares graduates to become innovative managers in the aggressive biotechnology business environment. Students can complete the MS portion of the degree fully online. In addition, there are three courses in the MBA that require 1.5- to 2.5-day residencies in Baltimore or Washington DC. GMAT scores are required to apply.

Johns Hopkins University – Online MBA and Master of Arts in Communication

Johns Hopkins offers a 60-credit MBA/MA in communication dual degree program that trains students to use new media and communication-based problem-solving strategies to transform traditional business paradigms. Students can complete the MA in communication entirely online. Note that 1.5- to 2.5-day residencies in Baltimore or Washington DC are required for three separate MBA courses. Applicants also must submit GRE scores.

Indiana University – Online MBA and Master of Science in Business Analytics

In its 66-credit dual online MBA/MS in business analytics program, Indiana University prepares students with an undergraduate background in business, economics, information technology, engineering, or statistics for leadership in analytics management, e-commerce, and web metrics. Offered entirely online, students enrolled in the program have up to five years to complete both degrees. GMAT scores are required, but waivers may be available.

Indiana University – Online MBA and Master of Science in Entrepreneurship & Innovation

By graduating from the 66-credit MBA/MS in entrepreneurship and innovation dual degree program, business professionals are prepared to succeed in new ventures, startups, and small businesses in emerging markets. While most coursework is online, those enrolled in this program will be expected to complete two on-campus residencies. GMAT scores are typically required, but waivers may be available to those with specific qualifications.
