What to Expect from MBA@UNC
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of professional work experience. To apply, candidates must submit an online application, an application fee, three essays (with the option to submit a fourth), two professional letters of recommendation, official transcripts, and GMAT or GRE scores. Applicants also participate in a personal interview.
Applicants with six or more years of professional experience are not required to submit GMAT or GRE scores. For all others, GMAT/GRE scores are required, although applicants can apply for a waiver if their academic records and professional work experience demonstrate a high level of quantitative and analytical skills.

Students whose native language is not English must also submit TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic scores unless they earned an undergraduate or graduate degree at a U.S. college, completed their education in English in an English-speaking country, or earned an undergraduate/graduate degree in India.
Study Plan: Start dates for UNC Kenan-Flagler’s online MBA program are offered in January, April, July, and October. Students taking two courses per quarter can expect to graduate in 24 months. However, students have the flexibility to earn their MBA in as few as 18 months or up to three years.
Curriculum: The MBA@UNC curriculum focuses on leadership development, preparing students to become exceptional leaders who can effectively analyze problems, think strategically and build strong global organizations. The program consists of 62 credits, which includes core courses that explore analytical tools, business communication, business strategy, management and leadership skills, economics, financial accounting, introductory finance, marketing strategy and operations management.
To customize their program of study, students can choose from more than 25 electives or may pursue a concentration to build their knowledge in a particular focus area.
Designed to mirror the hiring needs of today’s employers, the five concentrations available for MBA@UNC are:
- Data analytics and Decision Making: Use data analytics to make strategic business decisions and promote data-driven strategies throughout organizations.
- Entrepreneurship: Prepare to start a business or innovate within an organization through courses that focus on management, social entrepreneurship, business innovation, new venture discovery and corporate strategy.
- Finance: Lead in mid-sized to large companies, consulting firms and other organizations by taking elective courses in financial statement analysis, derivatives, real estate, taxes, managerial accounting, fixed income and business strategies.
- Marketing: Use marketing to better connect with a global audience through courses that focus on market analysis, global marketing strategies, customer management, product management and marketing services.
- Strategy and Consulting: Prepare to be a business consultant or corporate strategy professional through courses that focus on developing leadership, analytical and client management skills to help organizations solve real-world problems.
Online Experience: Each week, MBA@UNC offers live online classes with case discussions, role-plays, breakout groups, and other opportunities for interaction. Small class sizes foster a rich, collaborative learning environment and opportunities for networking. Class discussions are based on interactive assignments that students complete at their own pace throughout the week.
On-Site Requirements: Students are required to attend at least two immersions during the online MBA program. Immersions allow students to travel to business environments around the world for intensive, weekend-long learning experiences with peers, professors, and global business leaders. Past destinations include Shanghai, San Francisco, Johannesburg and Buenos Aires.
