The Southern Oregon University (SOU) School of Business offers a 100 percent online master of business administration (MBA) with a general track or one of six concentrations: accounting, business analytics, finance, healthcare administration, information analysis and decision-making, and marketing. The SOU online MBA can be completed in just 16 months.
SOU offers very affordable tuition, five start dates, and accelerated seven-week courses. No leveling courses or GMAT/GRE scores are required. Core concepts covered include marketing management, information systems, operations management, managerial accounting, managerial decision-making, organizational behavior, financial management, and legal and ethical issues in business.
Graduates of the online MBA may go on to leadership and management positions in various fields depending on their concentration including general business, marketing, human services, healthcare, finance, information systems and data analytics, and accounting.
Southern Oregon University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The SOU School of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). SOU is located in Ashland, Oregon.
What to Expect from the Southern Oregon University Online MBA
Admission Requirements: Prospective online MBA students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for full admission. Otherwise, applicants may have at least a 2.75 GPA with three years of relevant work experience.
Provisional admission may be gained by applicants with less than a 2.75 GPA who can verify at least three years of relevant work experience and provide three professional references. Students with provisional admission must earn a B or higher in first-semester courses in order to continue in the program.
No GMAT is required, but official transcripts are. Also, those whose first language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency and restrictions apply for international students.
Study Plan: The SOU online MBA program can be completed in as little as 16 months. Courses last seven weeks each and the program begins five times per year in the fall, winter, and spring, with two start dates in the summer. A capstone and a graduate research project are included in the core curriculum.
MBA Curriculum: The online MBA comprises 45 credits and includes core courses plus electives or concentration courses. SOU accepts students from all backgrounds and does not require foundation courses.
Core courses include marketing management and strategy; information systems; strategic operations management; graduate research project; managerial accounting for decision-making; economic analysis; advanced organizational behavior; financial management practices; legal and ethical issues in business and management; and a capstone.
Students then complete electives or concentration courses as follows:
- General: Students choose three courses from a list of electives approved for the online MBA program.
- Accounting: accounting information systems; financial statement analysis; business valuation and financial statements
- Business Analytics: advanced management information systems; process improvement; using GIS in business
- Finance: investments; financial statement analysis; international financial management
- Healthcare Administration: process improvement; healthcare in the United States: structures, systems, and policies; advanced health communication
- Information Analysis and Decision-Making: advanced management information systems; building decision-making and business analysis models using Excel; using GIS in business
- Marketing: internet marketing and eCommerce; using GIS in business; marketing channels management and pricing strategy
Online Experience: Southern Oregon University delivers courses asynchronously through the Blackboard online learning management system (LMS). This is available through the MySOU portal. Through Blackboard, students can participate in discussion boards, access course syllabi and grades, complete assignments, enter chatrooms, find assessments, and use other online services. Online student services may include technical support, academic advising, tutoring, faculty office hours, financial aid services, library and bookstore services, and career counseling.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements as the SOU online MBA is 100 percent online.

Online MBA students may apply for unsubsidized graduate student loans through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
