Avila University (AU) offers a 100 percent online master of business administration (MBA) with nine concentrations: accounting, executive leadership, finance, healthcare administration, international business, management, marketing, project management, and strategic human resources. The online MBA can be completed in as few as 12 months and does not require campus visits or GRE/GMAT test scores. Core courses cover financial accounting, ethical responsibility, understanding and managing group behavior in organizations, stress management, microeconomics, financial management, marketing management, and global strategic management.
The MBA in management offers the flexibility of gearing concentration courses to match specific interests and career goals. The other eight concentrations have specific courses designed for their concentration area.
Avila University is located in Kansas City, Missouri, and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The following online MBA concentrations are accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE): accounting, finance, healthcare administration, international business, management, and marketing.
What to Expect from the Avila University Online MBA
Admission Requirements: Applicants to the AU online MBA must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Those with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 to 2.74 may be eligible for conditional admission. No GMAT or GRE is required. Prospective students must submit an online application and official transcripts.
Study Plan: Online MBA courses run eight weeks each with six start dates each year, two in the fall, two in the spring, and two in the summer. The program can be completed in 12 months or more, requiring no campus visits. An MBA capstone course allows students to integrate learned concepts through simulation-based exercises designed to improve decision-making skills through strategic analysis and testing.
MBA Curriculum: The online MBA program comprises 30 credits. A three-credit statistical analysis course is required for those who still need to complete a statistics course. Core courses include financial accounting for decision-making; behavior, well-being, and ethics; applied microeconomics; financial management; global strategic management; marketing management; and MBA capstone.
Concentration courses include:
- Accounting: Managerial cost accounting; advanced cost accounting; fraud examination and auditing
- Executive Leadership: Innovation and creativity; conflict management systems; leadership and influence processes
- Finance: Financial analysis and decision-making; international finance; financial markets and investments
- Healthcare Administration: Healthcare systems; special problems in healthcare management; current issues in healthcare administration
- International Business: International marketing; international economics; international finance
- Management: Students choose three courses from any of the concentration courses
- Marketing: Students take marketing strategy and choose two courses from marketing analysis; international marketing; integrated marketing communication
- Project Management: The practice of project management; tools and technology of project management; case study and application of project management
- Strategic Human Resources: Workforce planning and employment; total rewards and risk management; employee and labor relations
Online Experience: Avila University students access class schedules, the academic calendar, advising information, and more through the MyAU intranet system. Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) to deliver asynchronous courses. Here, students can access a dashboard to find assignments, discussion boards, grades, course syllabi, resource links, case studies, and recorded lectures and videos.
AU students can use Calendly to schedule an appointment with the student success coordinator for additional support throughout the program. Online student services include technical support, library and bookstore services, career counseling, financial aid, and alumni support.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the Avila University online MBA as the program is 100 percent online.
